Suraj Pancholi and Jiah Khan

I was away for a few days but just got word there have been a few developments on the Jiah Khan suicide and Suraj Pancholi arrest since our last report so I thought I should fill you in…

For starters Aripta Khan (Salman Khan‘s little sister) took to twitter to voice her displeasure that Bhai’s name was being dragged into the case.

Salman Khan himself was reportedly upset about it too and rubbished all rumours of advising Suraj on his private life. Salman said that he was never asked by Suraj’s father Aditya Pancholi to intervene in his son’s relationship and that his name is unnecessarily being used in this case. He also said that he sympathises with Jiah’s bereaved family, but the charges framed by Jiah’s mother against him were absurd.

As of now Suraj is being detained by the police till June 27th on charges of abetment of suicide as a result of the allegations in Jiah Khan’s suicide note.

Today on Twitter I also discovered this blog called “standup4sooraj” that claims the suicide note released to the police and the press was fake and not written by Jiah at all. Oddly enough, the blog first showed a comparative between her alleged suicide note and a signed letter previously written to Suraj, both images seem to have been removed since I last checked, not sure why… but I did find this on Daily Bhaskar for you to take a look at.

 Apparently this (above) is a copy of a love letter Jiah previously wrote Suraj. While the handwriting appears to be more slanted they both look like they were written on paper from the same notebook based on the marking on the dairy pages. See? (Below a copy of Jiah’s alleged suicide note found three days later by her sister amongst Jiah’s belongings.)

Mana & Suniel Shetty

An insider close to Rabiya Khan reveals that Jiah Khan‘s mother has been calling Suniel Shetty and wife Mana Shetty (whose daughter Atiya Shetty is making her debut opposite – you guessed it - Suraj Pancholi in the remake of Subhash Ghai‘s Hero. My source says that after her daughter’s suicide, Rabiya has been sending text messages and also calling the Shetty’s asking them to stop their daughter from working with Suraj.

My source reveals, “Rabiya told Suniel if Atiya goes ahead and works with Suraj it could give her a bad name. She also told him that her daughter Karishma Khan plans to make her own movie debut and maybe he could help launch her instead.” I’m told that Suniel hasn’t entertained too many of Rabiya’s calls and has told her that he won’t be asking his daughter to walk away from the film. Murky are the ways of B-Town politics I suppose.

A source reveals that her mother Rabiya Khan had met a producer who had planned to invest in a project starring Karishma and Jiah was super excited for her too. I’m told Rabiya plans to go ahead with the project as soon as the drama surrounding Jiah’s death is put to rest…

Salman Khan

A friend of Suraj Pancholi narrated an incident to us from the sets of Ek Tha Tiger where he assisted Kabir Khan on the film. (As you know, Suraj had earlier assisted Sanjay Leela Bhansali on the Hrithik Roshan starrer Guzaarish.)

Commenting on his closeness to Salman, my spy says there were many times Salman was smoking a cigarette and would always pass it on to Suraj (who was his Man Friday during the shoot), “Salman has this habit of giving his half-smoked cigarette to one person in particular on set before he goes into a shot. He would always give it to Suraj who would quietly hold on to it. Sometimes it would burn out in his hand and people on set would often joke about Suraj being Salman’s cigarette holder!”

As of now Suraj has been remanded to police custody for abetment of suicide in the Jiah Khan suicide case till June 27th.

Tejaa Deokar and Jiah Khan

While the ink is still drying on Jiah Khan‘s post-mortem report, plans have been announced that she will be the subject of an upcoming Marathi film.

The film called Nati (which means actress), will star Marathi actress Tejaa Deokar in a role similar to Jiah Khan’s life and tragic death.

Says the actress, “Yes we are making Nati on the life of an actress who is frustrated with her career and her love life especially. It is a journey of a woman and the circumstances which makes her to commit suicide. I think this will be one of the most powerful and provocative film ever tried in Marathi cinema and I am looking forward to it.”

The film is scheduled to be released in October.

Suraj Pancholi

Here’s the latest on Suraj Pancholi. He finally left prison on bail this Monday, three weeks after being arrested over a possible role in the suicide of his actress girlfriend Jiah Khan. Suraj was released after a Mumbai court set bail at 50,000 rupees. Based on Jiah’s suicide note that her mother Rabbiya Khan released to the police, Suraj had been charged with abetting suicide, an offence that is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

The Bombay High Court said on Monday that the letter found at Jiah Khan’s house, allegedly written by her, cannot be termed a suicide note as it is neither dated nor addressed to anyone and that the letter never reached Suraj, ”therefore, it cannot be said the emotions expressed in the letter ever reached the applicant (Suraj)” Justice Jadhav said. The High Court also held that Pancholi did not nurture an intent or motive to push the girl to commit suicide and also took note of the fact that Jiah had suicidal tendencies.

I hear that Suraj wants to visit the religious temple in Shirdi and seek blessings from Sai Baba. Family members are relieved that he has been releases on bail. During his time in jail he apparently also took to writing poems and short stories which he has shared with his father and sister.

While he might not make it to Shirdi immediately (as it might create a security hazard given the fact that he’s making headlines) he has expressed his interest in making the trip soon with a friend. I guess he’s hoping this is the end of things…

Zarina Wahab and Aditya Pancholi are two happy people right now – their son, Suraj Pancholi, has been released on bail following his arrest over a possible role in the suicide of actress Jiah Khan. The parents invited the media to their home for a press conference, where they thanked God and the judiciary that their ordeal is now over.

The two said that they had begun to lose hope, but now that has been restored and they’re awaiting their son’s return home. Zarina even said that Jiah’s soul must have finally at peace, since she loved Suraj and wouldn’t have wanted to see him suffer this way. She also claimed to love her, and said that the actress deserved a better send-off than all this conflict.

Jiah Khan

It’s been several months since actress Jiah Khan died, allegedly because she committed suicide. However, her mother - Rabiya Khan - has only recently filed a new petition in court, claiming that her daughter may have been murdered instead. Reportedly, she thinks that the investigation was not done properly, and believes that the medical evidence shows that “something is missing” as far as suicide is concerned. She is now petitioning for a CBI probe into the death of her daughter.

In her petition, Rabiya has claimed that she strongly believes the investigation has been hushed up and that the police carried out their probes in such a way that it prevented the truth from coming out. She also says that there were injury marks on Jiah’s body, yet no one looking into the case made any attempt to determine what really happened.

We’ll have to wait and see how this situation develops!

So it seems the Jiah Khan story has taken an even more ominous turn. Her mother Rabia Khan recorded a fresh statement with the Mumbai police on Saturday stating that her daughter was murdered by someone very close to her, obviously implicating ex-boyfriend Suraj Pancholi again.

As per the TOI this development comes after a three day probe when police were asked to investigate these allegations of murder over suicide. In the high court, Jiah’s mother has alleged that her daughter may have been killed but the situation was made to look like a suicide.

Rabiya Khan says, “My daughter was definitely murdered and the police have hidden the facts – this is ultimate proof that somebody else was involved and killed her. Why didn’t the forensics experts examine the DNA on the human tissue found in her nails, to ascertain whose it was?”

Why is this happening now? Well according to the forensic report a fragment of human flesh was found under Jiah’s fingernails along with blood stains on her under garments. So now they might even exhume the body to further investigate. More forensic deets for “homicidal hanging” according to the Mid Day here.

Apparently an independently conducted forensic report found several loopholes in the investigations done by the police inferring that there is a strong possibility that Jiah did not commit suicide.

Oh dear, looks like we have here quite a situation. Jiah Khan is working a look here that can be best described as cringe worthy.

There are just too many elements going on with that outfit – from the graphic socks, the coloured laces to the broad black belt and shrug.  Not to mention that peacock-feather print dress. Such a hot mess!

Incase you were wondering Aamir Khan’s new flick Ghajini is the Hindi adaptation of the Tamil film of the same name but is inspired by the critically acclaimed film Memento by Christopher Nolan. Remember the guy who has anterograde amnesia aka short term memory loss out seeking revenge for his wife’s murder but can never find a handy notepad so tattoos everything on himself?! Katrina Kaif’s got a personal diary in a local tabloid the Mid-day today revealing a day in her life which is quite cute. Particularly the part where she says, “Have  a very important announcement to make…My ‘Flip’ has arrived…The Flip is basically a very small video camera…I have been desperately waiting for it… I’m overjoyed. I’m going to film everything now. (Always wanted to be a director)” That’s what I use to shoot all my Desi girl videos for Desi Hits! Yay, and apologies for the pun, I knew you’d get curious teehee :) She goes on to reveal “Everyday, there is always one song that plays in my head over and over. Today’s song – Ne-Yo: Mad At You.” And looks like designer Rocky S. is quite a hit with all the B-town belles, I’ve seen tons of posts by Bipasha Basu on his Facebook wall and now Kat reveals, “Rocky comes home for a costume fitting… It’s always a bit of a shouting match at first, but he always comes up with something wonderful. And since he is one of my best friends, we chat up the night…” No wonder Rocky’s (who goes by Rocky Star on Facebook) current status reads, “…………..B.U.L.L.E.T.P.R.O.O.F……….….!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” Who wouldn’t be with Bollywoods angels by their side?

Now anyone who’s ever accidentally sent someone an SMS meant for another recipient can totally empathize when it happens to somebody else (its just that when it happens to Bollywood I’ll also blog about it and we’ll share a little giggle!) Producer Sajid Nadiadwala (who’s also celebrating his birthday today with the cast & crew of Housefull) had a similar situation on hand. Twitter-happy Ritiesh Deshmukh was teaching him the finer aspects of Blackberry Messenger and while Sajid was changing his status he ended up texting all his contacts “love you”! The best bit are some of the reactions he got:

(I find Lara’s especially hilarious considering this could potentially be misconstrued as a rather romantic invitation. She appears to be playing it safe big time!)

And heads up if you’re a Farhan Akhtar fan and have a flair for coming up with movie titles. (There’s a lot of money in this I kid you not!) Apparently Farhan hates the name “Crooked” for his Abhinay Deol film and has offered members of his crew a 100,000rs prize for a name he likes! (See what I did there with the title again? Lol, ok ok I apologize!) I guess Farhan and his producer-partner Ritesh Sidhwani must really be at their wits end to cough up that kind of dough for a name. A crew member confirms, “It is true. Farhan is desperate for a title for the Abhishek Bachchan starrer. He doesn’t want Crooked to be stuck as the films title. Farhan has announced a 100,000rs reward for any of us who come up with a suitable title.”
Step 1: Come up with a killer title.
Step 2: Somehow join Farhan Akhtar’s production crew.
Step 3: Laugh all the way to the bank.

Hi Miss Malini Peeps!

I’ve been reading too many US tabloids, and came across a cool feature they have, comparing the ages of celebs. It’s surprising to find out the age difference in Hollywood celebs, for instance, Sandra Bullock is 11 years older than Kate Winslet, yet they look the same age!

That got me thinking, a lot of newcomers are the same age, for instance, Anushka Sharma, Prachi Desai and Jiah Khan were all born in 1988. But when Anushka Sharma was introduced in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, I thought she was 26, when actually, she was only 19-20 at the time of casting/production.  I was also surprised to find out Jiah Khan is in that age bracket. But, looking mature for your age isn’t bad, could you picture Prachi Desai opposite Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar or Ajay Devgn, like Anushka Sharma or Katrina Kaif? No, it would look awkward.

Just revisiting this piece of news and reading up on the events that followed left me dejected. In June earlier this year, 25 year old Jiah Khan (who had reverted to using Nafisa as her name) ended her own life. Her mother, Rabiya Khan released a suicide note and consequently, Jiah’s boyfriend, Suraj Pancholi was taken in by the police. The last news report suggested Jiah may have been murdered and that the situation may have been set up to look like a suicide. While we don’t know the truth, we hope Jiah is in a better place. And nobody treads down this wretched path in the future.

While their PR representatives denied it at the time, in December, Hrithik himself released a statement to the media confirming the news. The grapevine was already abuzz with rumours of Ranbir Kapoor dating Katrina Kaif. It was when the two went on holiday to Ibiza that everyone had something to talk about. Photos of Katrina in a bikini with Ranbir close behind her were leaked. A while after the leak, Katrina wrote to TOI expressing how upset, distressed and invaded she felt. On the other hand, Ranbir took on a zen like state and claimed he had no problem with what people said about him. Incidentally, on Koffee With Karan, Kareena Kapoor Khan let the ‘kat’ out of the bag (pun intended), calling Katrina her sister-in-law. On the show, Ranbir even joked that Ibiza tourism should pay him.

I feel a tad silly mentioning this but c’mon, Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan hugged it out! Since their epic fall-out in 2008, the two had avoided each other’s paths. But in July, at Baba Siddique‘s iftaar party, they shared a hug. Of course, everyone went nuts over this jhappi. And recently, on Koffee With Karan, Salman admitted that he holds on to his good memories with SRK. We’re still to know what SRK has to say to that.

Shah Rukh Khan had a third child through surrogacy but before the addition of this baby to their family, there were rumours that SRK and Gauri had checked for sex determination. Finally, SRK put the media whispers to a rest by releasing the following statement and welcoming baby AbRam to his home:

Sanjay Dutt has previously been convicted by a TADA court for illegal possession of weapons that had relation to the serial blasts in Mumbai in 1993. In May 2013, he surrendered before the court to complete the remaining three years of his sentence. But he has been in and out of jail since then for different reasons.

This season of Bigg Boss Saath 7 hosted by Salman Khan kept everyone entertained and talking. From Tanishaa Mukerji and Armaan Kohli being caught in a compromising position, the rumoured pressure Ajay Devgn was putting on the show’s producers to have Tanishaa evicted, Armaan Kohli being arrested thanks to Sofia Hayat to Kushal Tandon leaving and re-entering the house and finally, Gauahar Khan winning, it was a crazy roller-coaster ride.

So that’s our roundup of the biggest Bollywood stories of 2013. Did we miss out an any? Here’s hoping for an eventful 2014. We know you’ll keep it up, Bollywood, but more happy shiny and less sad please. :)

The year has come to an end and not surprisingly, a lot of news from Bollywood made it to the headlines. Here’s looking back at events that shocked us, surprised us, delighted us, broke our hearts or simply had us talking. Read on as we journey through the major Bollywood stories of 2013. And we’ll be seeing you next year for a lot more Bollywood news and gossip. ;)

jiah khan committed suicide

Just revisiting this piece of news and reading up on the events that followed left me dejected. In June earlier this year, 25 year old Jiah Khan (who had reverted to using Nafisa as her name) ended her own life. Her mother, Rabiya Khan released a suicide note and consequently, Jiah’s boyfriend, Suraj Pancholi was taken in by the police. The last news report suggested Jiah may have been murdered and that the situation may have been set up to look like a suicide. While we don’t know the truth, we hope Jiah is in a better place. And nobody treads down this wretched path in the future.

hrithik roshan and sussanne roshan announced their separation

In September, MissMalini told you the sad truth about Hrithik Roshan and Sussanne Roshan heading for splitsville. While their PR representatives denied it at the time, in December, Hrithik himself released a statement to the media confirming the news. Sussanne also issued a statement and spoke about it with the media at the opening of her new store. This is the saddest we’ve felt while saying we-told-you-so.

ranbir kapoor and katrina kaif’s beach holiday photos were leaked

The grapevine was already abuzz with rumours of Ranbir Kapoor dating Katrina Kaif. It was when the two went on holiday to Ibiza that everyone had something to talk about. Photos of Katrina in a bikini with Ranbir close behind her were leaked. A while after the leak, Katrina wrote to TOI expressing how upset, distressed and invaded she felt. On the other hand, Ranbir took on a zen like state and claimed he had no problem with what people said about him. Incidentally, on Koffee With Karan, Kareena Kapoor Khan let the ‘kat’ out of the bag (pun intended), calling Katrina her sister-in-law. On the show, Ranbir even joked that Ibiza tourism should pay him.

I feel a tad silly mentioning this but c’mon, Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan hugged it out! Since their epic fall-out in 2008, the two had avoided each other’s paths. But in July, at Baba Siddique‘s iftaar party, they shared a hug. Of course, everyone went nuts over this jhappi. And recently, on Koffee With Karan, Salman admitted that he holds on to his good memories with SRK. We’re still to know what SRK has to say to that.

Shah Rukh Khan had a third child through surrogacy but before the addition of this baby to their family, there were rumours that SRK and Gauri had checked for sex determination. Finally, SRK put the media whispers to a rest by releasing the following statement and welcoming baby AbRam to his home:

By the way, Shah Rukh Khan believes he’s the best dad in the world and we agree with him. :)

sanjay dutt in and out of jail

Sanjay Dutt has previously been convicted by a TADA court for illegal possession of weapons that had relation to the serial blasts in Mumbai in 1993. In May 2013, he surrendered before the court to complete the remaining three years of his sentence. But he has been in and out of jail since then for different reasons.
